Practical semester

During the practical semester (5th semester), which can be completed in Germany or abroad, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge within companies or other organisations, taking on real tasks and responsibilities. This semester often serves as the first point of contact with future employers. 

Depending on the course of study, it is carried out in companies, research institutes, consulting institutions, industry associations, non-governmental organisations, planning offices and administrations. 

DURATION AND LOCATION OF THE INTERNSHIP SEMESTER

  • At least 18 weeks (approx. 5 months) and at least 90 days of attendance (workdays),
  • must always be completed consecutively; splitting into two practical placements is possible
  • Holiday leave during the internship semester does not count as days of attendance
  • 5th semester (winter semester), standard period 01/09. To 31/01.
  • Special regulation for the Renewable Energies degree programme:
    If you start your studies in the summer semester in the "Semester PLUS" model, the 5th semester is in the summer semester. The standard period for the practical semester in this case would be from 1 March to 31 July.

DEADLINES FOR THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP SEMESTER (5TH SEMESTER – WINTER SEMESTER)

  • 15.05.: Fristende zur Rückgabe der Ausbildungsverträge
  • Ende der ersten Vorlesungswoche im dem Praxissemester folgenden Semester: Fristende für den Rücklauf der Praxissemesterunterlagen (Praxissemesterbericht, unterschriebener Tätigkeitsnachweis, unterschriebene Ausbildungsbescheinigung)

DEADLINES FOR THE INTEGRATED INTERNSHIP SEMESTER (5TH SEMESTER – SUMMER SEMESTER)

  • 15 May: Deadline for the return of training contracts
  • End of the first week of lectures in the semester following the internship semester: Deadline for returning the internship semester documents (internship semester report, signed proof of activity, signed training certificate)
