Why study Forest Management in Rottenburg
The School of Applied Sciences attaches particular importance to its high practical relevance, which it ensures through the use of numerous lecturers, its integrated practical semester and the on-site teaching area.
Throughout the degree programme, a large proportion of the courses take place in the form of excursions, practical exercises and project and group work. In addition to classic "practical subjects" such as silviculture, felling planning and log sorting, the lecturers also frequently try to establish a practical relevance in other lectures.
The 2,500-hectare training area located right on the university's doorstep provides excellent practical learning opportunities. In the first two semesters, students acquire the fundamental knowledge required for the broad-based forestry degree programme. In addition to natural and social sciences, as well as technical and methodological foundations, particular emphasis is placed on the development of key skills.
In the main study programme, the subject areas of forestry are jointly deepened and supplemented.
From the practical semester onwards (5th semester), the compulsory course programme for all students is supplemented by compulsory elective modules. These serve to deepen the student's specialisation and create an individual profile according to their own interests. A total of 4 modules with different specialisations can be selected from 14 modules.
After seven semesters, during which you can also complete your Bachelor's thesis, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forest Management. The specialisations "Tropical Forestry" and "International Timber Trade" can be taken in English at our Dutch partner university.
The other degree programmes in Rottenburg, which all deal with the sustainable use of resources, create a variety of synergy effects for students, e.g., in teaching and in project and final theses.
"THERE'S ALWAYS SOMEONE YOU CAN ASK, EVEN THE PROFESSORS. SOME OF THEM KNOW YOUR NAME BEFORE YOU'VE MEMORISED THEIRS."
Although the number of students and staff has more than tripled in the last 10 years, the short distances and familiar atmosphere are emphasised time and again in conversations with students.
