There are various ways to study at the Rottenburg University of Applied Sciences:
General higher education entrance qualification moreless
This entitles the holder to study all degree programmes at universities in the Federal Republic of Germany. The general higher education entrance qualification is usually acquired through the Abitur.
Subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification moreless
The subject-specific university entrance qualification (with proof of a foreign language) entitles you – depending on the type of school at which it was obtained – to study any degree programme at universities of applied sciences. The subject-specific university entrance qualification can be obtained by sitting the final examination at vocational upper secondary schools – two-year upper secondary level – (Technical Upper Secondary School, Business Upper Secondary School or Vocational Upper Secondary School for Social Services) without a second foreign language.
Advanced technical college entrance qualification moreless
The Fachhochschulreife entitles you to study at universities of applied sciences. The Fachhochschulreife can be acquired through one of the following qualifications:
- Completion of a one-year vocational college to obtain the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
- Completion of a two- or three-year vocational college, sometimes with additional lessons and additional examination
- Completion of a vocational school with additional instruction and examination, and completion of a dual training programme
- Completion of a technical college for business, technology/design or a technical college for individual sectors (sometimes with additional lessons and examinations)
In addition to the academic part, the vocational part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences in the upper secondary school requires one of the following prerequisites:
- at least two years of vocational training in a recognised training occupation in accordance with the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code, or in an equivalent regulated training occupation, or
- at least two years of school-based vocational training, possibly in conjunction with a work placement, or
- at least two years of vocational training in a public-law employment relationship or
- an internship of at least one year (see below for details) or
- at least three years of professional experience that is conducive to studying at a university of applied sciences, whereby successful attendance at a full-time vocational school can be recognised for up to one year; in cases of doubt, the regional council will decide.
Foreign and other educational certificates moreless
If you are a German citizen and have completed your Abitur abroad, are still resident abroad and would like to study in Baden-Württemberg, or if you are a German citizen, have obtained a higher education entrance qualification abroad and are resident in Baden-Württemberg, your higher education entrance qualification will be recognised by the

If your place of residence is in another federal state, the certificate recognition office of this federal state is responsible.
Certificate recognition at the Studienkolleg Konstanz:
Please read the information on the Studienkolleg homepage www.studienkolleg.htwg-konstanz.de carefully before applying for certificate recognition at the Studienkolleg in Konstanz. You must submit your application for certificate recognition to the Studienkolleg by the deadline of 1 May for the winter semester. After these deadlines, the Studienkolleg will only process your application with regard to applications for the following semester. Exceptions: Only if you enclose a certificate of the assessment test or DSH-2, DSH-3 or TestDaF (4.0) or DSD II (B2 or C1 is not sufficient!) with your application, you can still submit your application to the Studienkolleg after the deadlines mentioned.
Applicants with foreign certificates must first apply to the Studienkolleg Konstanz for certificate recognition. The Studienkolleg Konstanz is the central point of contact for those interested in (specialised) university studies in Baden-Württemberg with regard to counselling, certificate recognition and German examinations (DSH or TestDaF).
Applicants for German-language Master's degree programmes with a foreign Bachelor's degree certificate must first apply to the Studienkolleg Konstanz for certificate recognition: www.studienkolleg.htwg-konstanz.de
University admission for vocationally qualified persons moreless
In Baden-Württemberg, general university admission is open to vocationally qualified persons with a master craftsman's examination or equivalent advanced vocational training. Vocationally qualified persons without a master craftsman's examination or equivalent further training can obtain a subject-specific university entrance qualification by passing an aptitude test if the requirements are met.
1. general higher education entrance qualification in accordance with § 58 Para. 2 No. 5 LHG (State Higher Education Act) for vocationally qualified persons with a master craftsman's examination or equivalent further vocational training
A general higher education entrance qualification in accordance with § 58 Para. 2. No. 5 LHG exists if you have successfully completed the programme (submission of certified copies):
- A master craftsman's examination
- Further vocational training equivalent to the master craftsman's examination in the learned profession in accordance with the Vocational Training Act, the Crafts Code or another public law regulation (see: § 4 BerufsHZVO)
- Other continuing vocational training, provided it has been recognised as equivalent by statutory order (see § 5 BerufsHZVO)
- A specialised school within the meaning of § 14 des Schulgesetzes
Provide written proof of a counselling interview on the content, structure and requirements of the intended degree programme at a university. The counselling interview is conducted and certified by the responsible head of the degree programme.
The certificate of the counselling interview must be submitted to the university together with the general higher education entrance qualification, a curriculum vitae in tabular form and proof of professional training and further education (officially certified copies).
2. subject-specific higher education entrance qualification in accordance with § 58 Para. 2 No. 6 LHG (State Higher Education Act) for other professionally qualified persons by passing an aptitude test
You can obtain a subject-specific university entrance qualification in accordance with § 58 Para. 2 No. 6 LHG if you have successfully completed the programme (submission of certified copies):
- At least two years of vocational training and
- As a rule, at least three years of professional experience,
In a subject area corresponding to the intended degree programme, provide written proof of a counselling interview on the content, structure and requirements of the intended degree programme at a university. The counselling interview is conducted and certified by the relevant subject-specific study advisor. The advisor also verifies whether your professional training, work experience, and chosen degree programme align and provides information on the content, requirements, and procedure of the aptitude test.
- In particular, justified individual cases, a university entrance qualification can be obtained by passing an aptitude test even without meeting the requirements (at least two years of vocational training and three years of professional experience), if instead several years of outstanding or particularly demanding work in a field corresponding to the desired degree programme can be proven.
If the above-mentioned requirements are met, a subject-specific university entrance qualification can be obtained by passing an aptitude test. You cannot register for the aptitude test yourself. If you fulfil the above requirements, you can submit an application for admission to the aptitude test to the university. The application must be accompanied by the certificate of the counselling interview and the other documents listed in the application. The application must be received by the Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences by 1 February at the latest, stating the intended course of study.
The aptitude test takes place once a year in May and is organised by the University of Konstanz. The Rottenburg School of Forestry will be charged a total of €300 for this. You will have to pay €120 of this amount yourself. You must agree to pay your own share of the costs when you submit your application.
